Haarlemmermeer Pavilion, Hoofddorp

In 2002, the Haarlemmermeer city council commissioned a building for the Floriade Exposition: The Haarlemmermeer Pavilion. Haarlemmermeer was chosen to host the Floriade because the year 2002 coincided with celebrating the draining and reclaiming of land which 150 years ago had been a lake. The avant-garde architectural firm Asymptote Architects from New York designed the building and has won several prizes. The building brings home how close we are to nature. Face to face with water, the air, and the greenness all around us. (Source: website restaurant Vork & Mes)
